We offer a wide selection of undergraduate courses, covering topics ranging from the Middle Ages to Italian-American culture and the Francophone literature of Africa, the Caribbean and the Middle East.
Our MA and PhD graduate programs in French are among the national leaders in successfully placing students in academic positions, and the highly productive research faculty provide expertise in all areas of French and Italian literature.

Liberty, sex or death! Moral dilemmas in early modern French culture will be taught in English this spring! We’ll be reading stories about female rage, nuns gone wild, torrid love affairs and bad marriages.
Taught MWF 12:20-1:10pm
In this class we will study literature, scientific and political texts, and artwork as we consider how these questions regarding acceptable sexuality and gender norms relate to our own beliefs today.
Taught Thursday 4:00pm - 6:30pm
Challenging the popular narrative that the history of sexual consent is one of linear progress and/or that sexual consent is a modern invention, this course will attend the medievalness of our modern conceptions of it.
