Gadisa Merdassa

Gadisa is a Ph.D. student in Structural Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder. He earned his M.S. in Civil Engineering from the same university in Spring 2023 and holds a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Hawassa University in Ethiopia. His doctoral research focuses on the poromechanics, microstructural characterization, and mechanical behavior of Living Building Materials (LBM), a new class of bio-based construction materials with promising sustainability and environmental benefits. His work involves developing microstructural models and identifying critical engineering parameters to model the structural design of LBM under various loading and environmental conditions.
Besides his academic work, he is active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the American Concrete Institute (ACI), and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).
