Simon Julien
Graduated Spring 2022
Department of Applied Mathematics

Simon Julien graduated with his Masters in Spring 2022 from CU Boulder in the Department of Applied Mathematics. Simon is extremely passionate about the decarbonization of our energy grid and enthusiastically applies his background of computation and modeling to solve these problems. Simon's primary projects in the lab and affiliated internships at the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) have included power electronic load modeling and contingency analysis, stochastic levy process forecasting for high resolution solar production data at the distribution level, scientific machine learning for modeling and control of power systems, and control of solar power plants for ancillary services and mitigation of variability. Outside of his degree, Simon is the CEO and Founder of Latimer Controls where he has further applied his research to develop a software solution for utility-scale solar power plants to mimic the reliability and stability of fossil-fuel generation through cloud mitigation and robust regulation signal response.
