Objectives
A focused thematic workshop is proposed to investigate fundamental questions, and to explore the range of opportunities afforded by wave motion in heterogeneous materials. Specific objectives of the workshop are:
- To define novel methodologies for the study of wave motion in QP, disordered, fractal and random materials at different scales;
- To relate concepts typical of periodic systems, such as band structure, topology and topological invariants to disordered media, and define differences and similarities;
- To identify key challenges related to the control of wave transport in heterogeneous materials and structures and to the prediction of their performance;
- To identify emerging concepts, physical principles and analysis techniques that lead to transformative capabilities.
Areas of Interest
- Topological states of disordered surfaces and interfaces
- Localization in nonlinear, quasiperiodic and disordered media
- Control mechanisms for wave phenomena
- Imaging of heterogenous systems and fractional calculus
