CU Green Labs offers free energy metering to all labs at CU Boulder. Ask us to meter your equipment to compare its energy consumption to similar units and to see if you qualify for a financial incentive to replace your unit with an energy efficient alternative.
Additional lab equipment metering information available:
- Market Assessment of Energy Efficient Opportunities in Laboratories in California by Allison Paradise, Jeff Beresini, Paul Delaney, and Kate Zeng
- Inventorying Plug Load Equipment and Assessing Plug Load Reduction Solutions on a University Campus study conducted by Moira Hafer at Stanford University
Common equipment that we meter includes, but is not limited to:
- Ultra-Low Temperature freezers
- Lab- and residential-grade freezers
- Chromatography freezers
- Environmental Chambers
- Vacuum pumps
- Floor Centrifuges
- Drying ovens
- Specialized equipment
- And more!
To have us meter equipment in your lab, contact CU Green Labs (email@example.com, 303-735-5612) to set up an initial consultation to gather information on the unit. The consultation should take no longer than 20 minutes. Green Labs will return with the meter to set it up on the unit. The meter goes in between the unit and the wall, so the unit will need to be unplugged momentarily to plug it into the meter. The meter will collect data for up to a week (depending on the type of unit) and a Green Labs staff member will then return to remove the meter and analyze the data. With permission from the lab, a sticker can be attached to the unit with a summary of the data, as shown below*.
