The CU Boulder Bicycle Recycling & Processing Program (BRPP)

The BRPP is responsible for removing abandoned bikes from the racks on campus. By removing these abandoned bikes we are able to ensure ample bike parking for affiliates who are actively using their bikes.

The Environmental Center clears between 500-700 abandoned bikes from campus annually, which has greatly freed up rack parking space.

Having clean racks also deters bike theft, this is because abandoned and vandalized bikes attract thieves. After abandoned bikes are impounded they are held for a minimum of 30 days to give owners a chance to claim their bikes before they become university property. After the holding period the bikes are given a chance at a new life; many of them are refurbished and sold at our Annual Used Bike Sale!  The next sale will take place September 1st.
