Ernesto Araújo is a career diplomat and writer, born in Porto Alegre, Brazil. A graduate in Literature Studies from the University of Brasilia and in Diplomacy from the Brazilian Diplomatic Academy, he joined the Brazilian Foreign Service in 1990. Served in the diplomatic missions in Brussels, Berlin, Ottawa and Washington (where he was Deputy Chief of Mission from 2011 to 2015). Later was Director of Department for North America and the OAS in Brazil’s Foreign Ministry. In 2018 he was appointed by just-elected President Jair Bolsonaro to serve as Foreign Minister, an office he held until March 2021. The author of seven books on both foreign policy and literary fiction, he currently works as a writer and teacher.
