LGBTQ+ Resources for Summer

As we reach the end of our semester, we wanted to share some thoughts with you all about going home – especially if you are going home to a less supportive environment. Some of you may be going to a less-than-friendly political environment, some of you will be going to a less-than-supportive family environment; whatever the case, we want to make sure you are as prepared as possible and know that you always have ways to reach out to us for support.

  • If you are currently receiving hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for transition-related care, please consider getting an extended “vacation” refill if you are concerned about filling your prescription at an out-of-state pharmacy.

  • If you will be in need of medical care over the summer, consider making an appointment with your healthcare provider before you leave the state to ascertain the possibility of telehealth visits. If you are currently seeing a provider in the Wardenburg Health Center, please know that they will not be able to conduct telehealth visits over the summer if you are living outside of Colorado. Please ensure that you either see your provider before you leave or find a provider in your local area.

  • If you are currently seeing a mental health provider in Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS), please know that they will not be able to conduct virtual telehealth visits if you are living outside of Colorado. Please ensure that you have access to other services or providers in your local areas by speaking with your current therapist prior to leaving for the summer.

  • AcademicLiveCare is a free telehealth platform that allows students, staff and faculty to schedule and attend mental health and medical appointments from home, the office or wherever you are on the go. Please see their website for more information on both medical and mental health services.
  • If you have concerns about returning to your home state and want to explore attending CU’s Maymester sessions, please check the enrollment information and consider getting a few classes in.

  • Find an LGBTQ+ center in your local area before going home. Having their contact information may be useful for getting involved with another LGBTQ+ community, finding support and having allies for whatever you might encounter while at home. If you need help finding resources, please contact us and we will work together with you to find what you need.

  • If you are staying in Boulder for the summer, the CISC lobby will be open Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. in the C4C, N320. We will be holding an ice cream social on Fri., June 9, from 12-2 p.m. where we will be making signs to carry in Boulder Pride’s march on Sun., June 11, from 11:30 a.m.–5 p.m.

  • Denver Pride will be happening June 24-25. Look for more information to come about joining the CU contingent while we march in the parade on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

  • Lastly, I am available during the summer. We are here for you and would like to do some check-ins with folks to see how you all are doing and what you are up to, so please reach out to us via email (morgan.seamont@colorado.edu) and let’s keep in touch.

As always, if you have questions or want to talk further about resources and strategies for going home, please reach out to the Pride Office staff.
