Buckley Center for Sustainability Education

Buckley Center for Sustainability Education

The Buckley Center for Sustainability Education has been established to accelerate and elevate campus-wide sustainability education and learning efforts, aligning with program areas and guidelines of:

  1. Faculty support and engagement
  2. Student support and engagement
  3. Curriculum development

The Buckley Center has energy and enthusiasm - paired with new capacity - to become a valuable global hub in service of sustainability education for the success of our CU Boulder students, staff and faculty as well as partner institutions (universities, colleges, K12 schools), organizations and interested people across the state, country and world.

The Buckley Center will succeed to the extent that its people, partners and collaborators work together as a coordinated team. We welcome you to meet us in the middle as we find productive spaces to advance sustainability education for our common futures.

We’re all in this together.

Our Goals
The Buckley Center for Sustainability Education is pursuing an ambitious vision to advance CU Boulder’s position as a collaborative leader in sustainability education.

Our goals include:
  1. Growing the offering of courses that include sustainability
  2. Increasing the credit hours consumed that are sustainability-related
  3. Expanding learning and professional opportunities involving sustainability for students, staff and faculty
  4. Integrating and expand sustainability education into the curriculum offerings across all of CU Boulder’s departments and degree programs as well as certificates and microcredentials
  5. Elevating the campus’ baseline sustainability literacy
  6. Developing the university as a leader in sustainability education nationally and internationally
Our Vision
At CU Boulder, we want to help every community enjoy access to clean air, fresh water, abundant food and a vibrant natural environment—the necessities for building a happy, healthy life.

To help meet this vision, the university builds on its current strengths to become a national and international sustainability leader by enhancing education, research, operations and community engagement to help solve the urgent climate and environmental challenges of our time.

Call for Applications: Spring 2026 Buckley Faculty Fellows

The Buckley Center for Sustainability Education has an open call for Spring 2026 Faculty Fellows. The theme for this Spring 2026 cohort will be environmental and climate justice. In addition to developing the Sustainability Across the Curriculum training and resources for the training, faculty on academic year appointments will focus on teaching strategies in this moment and foundational content on sustainability. Buckley Faculty Fellows will be expected to provide critical faculty voice, perspective and labor-power to link centers and institutes with broader Buckley Center efforts.

We encourage faculty all across campus to apply. Applications are due December 12.
