Tim Magee presented “Power Portfolio Optimization: Combining Hydropower and Production Costs Models” at the annual conference of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences on October 18, 2022 in Indianapolis. The paper, co-authored by Edie Zagona, described a novel approach developed for the Tennessee Valley Authority for optimal scheduling of generation assets (abstract). The conference featured both theoretical and applied operations research and data science/mining topics such as energy optimization, quantum computing for integer programming, decision trees, and improving numerical stability in linear programs.
