Water in the Western United States Course

This online science course provides an overview of the science behind water and climate in the western United States as well as a survey of the major legal, political, and cultural issues focused on this precious resource.

By completing this course, you will:

  • Understand the unique aspects of water supply and demand issues in the western U.S. and how water systems have adapted to them
  • Be able to explain historical and scientific issues around water management in the western U.S.
  • Recognize major sources of water supplies in the western U.S. and the impact of individual “water footprints"
  • Be able to describe some of the ways in which scientists study research questions related to water and climate in the western U.S.

  Learners who complete this specialization are eligible to receive graduate credit from the University of Colorado Boulder.
