Resilience Engineering and Leadership in Crisis Specialization

 

This specialization explores leadership and decision-making in crises, where complex, interconnected systems are vulnerable to cascading failures. It focuses on resilience engineering and the skills needed to navigate uncertainty and disruption.

You’ll learn how resilience functions within socio-technical systems, using tools and frameworks to assess risk, measure system strength, and inform leadership strategies. Case studies—including COVID-19, industrial accidents, and climate-related events—provide real-world context.

Across three courses, you build a project around a chosen system: conducting risk assessments, developing a crisis management plan, evaluating resilience, and applying sustainability and climate principles.

In this specialization, you will learn how to:

  • Develop an understanding of resilience engineering, leadership, and the interdependent relationships between socio-economic systems
  • Evaluate security and resilience in today’s risk environment and its applications to people, organizations, and critical infrastructures
  • Prepare resilience reports, organizational plans, and leadership strategies for dealing with unanticipated threats and disruptions
