This document is intended to provide guidelines to System Administrators working within the CU-Boulder network. These guidelines fall under system and campus policies, including the CU-Boulder Computing and Network Resources policy.
CU-Boulder has a robust computing and networking environment used by members of the campus community to create, discover, and share information electronically. All users must comply with the Computing and Network Resources policy when using those resources. But, what does that policy mean in simple terms? This short summary will help you understand key concepts.
There is an expanding reliance on electronic communication among students, faculty, staff, and administration at the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU-Boulder). This is motivated by the convenience, speed, cost-effectiveness, and environmental advantages of using e-mail rather than printed communication. Because of this increasing reliance and acceptance of electronic communication, e-mail is considered an official means for communication within CU-Boulder.
Most privileges and responsibilities for information technology (IT) resources are covered by the University of Colorado Administrative Policy Statement, “IT Security Program – IT Resource User Responsibilities” and “University Information Security Standards for Trusted Campus Authentication;” however, additional responsibilities are outlined below for appropriate uses of IT resources at the University of Colorado Boulder campus.

The University of Colorado at Boulder (CU-Boulder) accepts requests for mailing lists of currently enrolled students. A mailing list is any compilation of student names and addresses for the purpose of sending information or materials to that list via the U.S. Postal Service or Campus Mail. The list may be in the form of a computer printout, mailing labels, or an electronic file. The following policy defines the process by which such requests are reviewed, approved, and processed.
