Student Health Insurance

The University of Colorado at Boulder has a strong institutional commitment toward student growth and the development of individual responsibility. To further this goal, the University embraces the concept that catastrophic financial risks while attending the University should be minimized. To this end, the University of Colorado at Boulder endorses a policy of mandatory health insurance requiring that all students on the UCB campus be covered by a comprehensive health insurance plan. Students may elect coverage under their own insurance, through their employer or their parents’ policies, or the University will provide an insurance plan designed to meet most students’ needs.

Such a student health insurance program should:

  • minimize, as much as possible, the financial risk of health care to students;
  • facilitate the development of individual responsibility by requiring students to take positive action in order to waive the insurance coverage;
  • ensure that all students, regardless of financial background, have equal access to care as Wardenburg moves toward greater reliance on fee-for-service.

The University of Colorado at Boulder encourages students to research various health plan options so that they may make informed health-care choices. Further information on the student health insurance plan coordinated through Wardenburg Health Center may be obtained by calling 303-492-5107.
