Proposal Guidelines - Due June 19, 2013
2013 Diversity and Inclusion Summit
November 13-14, 2013

Building the Road Map: Realizing Diversity and Inclusion for CU-Boulder, City of Boulder, and Boulder County

In 2003, former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor stated: “The [Supreme] Court expects that 25 years from now [2003], the use of racial preferences will no longer be necessary to further the interest approved today.”

The time Justice O’Connor foresees is 15 years from now. Extending her comments to include all diversity, the Diversity and Inclusion Summit Planning Committee has set its goals on implementing substantive change and realizing Flagship 2030’s vision that CU-Boulder become “a place that exemplifies diversity, intercultural understanding, and community engagement.”

Join us in manifesting the change we long to see.

What?

  • Teach us - To affect the change we all want to see.
  • Challenge us - To shift our lives and our culture toward better embracing diversity.
  • Inspire us - To move from talk to action.
  • Connect us - To our allies who can help continue doing this work.

Format? Be creative. The Diversity Summit can host one-hour interactive sessions and workshops, or other formats that work best for the kind of work you can help us do. Consider types of curricular infusion / contemporary teach-ins; teaching through art, film, music, dance; leadership trainings, theatrical performances, showcase of accomplishments, and more.

When? Give some thought regarding what day and time during the Summit, November 13-14, will work best for pulling in colleagues and students from any particular classes offered at CU-Boulder. Or other key groups of people.
Help us to build the roadmap by strengthening the diversity infrastructure throughout the year. Tell us what other days and times outside of the formal Summit could be important dates to continue this work. Can you offer ongoing action groups, for instance? Are you or others planning events that tie into your topic?

Where? or Everywhere? We have rooms reserved in the University Memorial Center (UMC) for the Summit, but consider where else on the campus might be even better suited to what you have to teach us. How can we take the Summit to the attendees as well as invite the attendees to the Summit?

Proposal Deadline: June 19, 2013.
