Other Recommendations

Our other recommendations remain the same as in the 1999 Status of Women Report. These concerns have not yet been addressed.

  1. In future years, non-officer administrators should be identified separately from professional exempt and classified staff in campus data.
  2. For future years, the CCW would like to have the salary data available by ethnicity and gender with ranges of salaries provided for all staff classifications. These classifications should include separate data for officers, non-officer administrators, unclassified/ professional exempt, and classified staff.
  3. Develop a job skills bank for all job classifications to facilitate more internal promotions.
  4. Women appreciated the opportunity to be heard through the focus groups. The Chancellor should ensure that focus groups be conducted on a periodic basis, perhaps every two or three years. In addition, lines of communication, such as written surveys and regular informal gatherings, need to be provided to individual women as well as women's groups on campus.
I can't say that I've actually myself experienced anything that I would feel is negative because I'm a woman. I would also have to say the situation is fairly unclear, though. This is the first time I've ever been involved with any group that ...is talking about the issues of women on campus. So I can't say that I'm very well informed. I have my own personal experiences, but I don't know about all the other women. (Faculty Member)
  5. CCW recommends that the Boulder campus develop an action plan with short-term and long-term steps identified to deal with the issues and concerns in this report. Such an action plan will include specific resources allocated to address the identified problems.
But every time there is a change, I think, "That's the reward. Now I can move on, you know. There is a rule there. They're not going to do that again. They're not going to talk to anybody else like that." But it's hard stuff, it's really hard stuff. But you get very sensitive to other women's problems. And the change comes too slowly. But we'll see when this [report] comes out. I feel it's going to be good at the end. (Faculty Member)
