Unit Diversity Committees and Guidelines
Committee Member Listings: These listings of unit diversity committees are as up-to-date as possible. They will continue to be adjusted as the information comes to our office.
Guidelines: The below guidelines are meant to help give the diversity committee representatives some parameters within which to operate. They are not requirements or limitations. The Office of Diversity and Equity and the University as a whole are grateful to the committee members for their time and efforts in this important area.
Purpose:
- To oversee that the unit is progressing with its diversity plan.
- To act as a voice for the unit regarding diversity issues.
Tasks:
- Unit diversity plan:
- Update plan once each year and submit updated plan to the Office of Diversity and Equity (as e-mail attachment ideally).
- Monitor plan's action items and facilitate execution of items when possible.
- Meet at least once a semester to review plan progress, as well as to discuss ways to improve climate in unit and recruitment and retention of diverse students, faculty and staff.
- Disseminate diversity news and information to the unit's staff, faculty and students. Encourage them to attend events that build awareness of multicultural and climate issues, such as the Annual Diversity Summit.
- Ensure that the unit knows about the committee and how to communicate with committee.
Committee Chair:
- Set and lead meetings.
- Advise committee.
- Distribute diversity-related information to committee.
Please call the Office of Diversity and Equity with any questions, concerns or comments at 303-735-1332.
Climate Assessment Tools
In developing diversity plans, units are asked to tie their climate goals with strategies, timelines and measurable outcomes. Climate surveys can be a good way to assess the current situation and to monitor progress on goals for improving climate. Below are several examples:
