Boulder’s City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to donate $10,000 to a fund created earlier this month to benefit undocumented University of Colorado students.

The “Student Relief Fund,” approved by CU’s Board of Regents April 7, will offer financial aid to students who “suffer a legal impediment to accessing federal or state financial aid.”

The donation from Boulder will come out of a contingency fund controlled by City Manager Jane Brautigam.

“I would love to do this,” Brautigam told the council.

Council members said they hoped Boulder’s contribution would inspire others to give to the fund.

“It’s hard to think of something that’s more in line with our efforts,” Councilman Matt Appelbaum said.

The fund is immediately accepting tax-deductible donations online.
