Sophia Magdalena Valdez is a Ph.D student in the Medieval and Early Modern Spanish Literatures track, as well as a graduate part-time instructor of Spanish. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and English and a Master of Arts in Spanish from Portland State University. Sophia has taught a variety of levels and age groups in Spanish, and her class topics have ranged from Spanish in Board Games to Spanish for Educators and Medical Professionals. Her research interests include representations of religion and gender in Golden Age Spanish literature, syncretism between Spanish Catholicism and Indigenous Latin American beliefs, and the Spanish gothic novel. She has presented her writing in academic conferences along the West Coast and hopes to continue actively engaging in future academic events.
