The Department of Spanish and Portuguese is seeking qualified tutors for its Spanish Modified Language Courses (MFLP).
The Modified Foreign Language Program (MFLP), developed at the University of Colorado Boulder over twenty years ago, offers Spanish language courses to students who demonstrate a need for curricular modifications.
It serves all eligible CU Boulder baccalaureate degree-seeking students who qualify to participate in the program: students with and without diagnosed language learning disabilities, students with sustained traumatic brain injuries, students with sensory impairments, students with psychiatric diagnoses, returning veterans with medical conditions that impact language learning and any other condition with demonstrated impact on language learning.
You will have an opportunity to work with students who have a history of struggle in mainstream Spanish classrooms. You will meet with MFLP students via Zoom as per a coordinated schedule for 30-minute time slots each week to help them with Spanish. You are not expected to prepare anything in advance, students will bring that to you based upon what they are learning in class.
- Communicate with MFLP Coordinator to set tutoring schedule.
- Meet with MFLP students via Zoom as per the coordinated schedule for 30-minute time slots each week to help them with Spanish.
- Exercise patience, understanding, and encouragement with MFLP students.
- Communicate with MFLP Coordinator regarding student tutoring attendance or anything else that comes up throughout the semester.
- Submit biweekly timesheet.
Qualifications and Job Details:
CU Boulder Graduate Students of Spanish or CU Boulder Undergraduate Spanish Majors who have completed or are currently enrolled in the Methods of Teaching Spanish (SPAN 4650) course are encouraged to apply. Other students with relevant tutoring experience may be considered.
- It is anticipated there will be 3-4 tutor positions (classified as Student Assistant II) at $15.00 per hour paid on a biweekly basis per a set schedule. The selected applicants must be available and permitted to work per university guidelines. A selected applicant's schedule will be determined with their supervisor, Dr. Elizabeth Huard.
- All work will be conducted remotely.
- The position will begin January 31, 2022 and end April 22, 2022.
- The position is hourly and does not include tuition remission.
- Effective 1/1/2021 in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act, all student employees will accrue sick leave. The accrual rate will be 0.034 hours for every 30 hours worked (learn more in the "Student Employment Handbook," pg. 25.)

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Colorado Boulder may find it necessary to hire lecturers to teach courses when we experience teaching needs in the Fall and/or Spring semesters.
