Emmy Herland has a PhD in Hispanic Studies from the University of Washington, where she also received her MA in Hispanic Studies. Her primary research area is Early Modern Spain, particularly representations of ghosts and other supernatural phenomena in literature and theater of the era. Her research interests include spectral studies, the supernatural, gender and sexuality studies, and performance studies, among others.
