AI Systems & their Societal Impacts

Overview: AI algorithms play an increasingly important role in our everyday lives, influencing a whole range of events, from what we watch on TV to our ability to land a job or obtain a mortgage. In each of these uses, there is potential for unjust outcomes - and examples of this are surfacing all the time. What is the root cause of biased algorithms, who is being affected, and what can be done to improve the fairness of these algorithms? Students will grow up in a world in which more and more decisions are handed off to AI algorithms - and we believe youth should have a voice in how these algorithms are designed and implemented.

Duration: Approximately 5 hours
