Dispatcher Roxanne EngleDispatcher Roxanne Engle (Soc’22), who started working with CUPD in late 2014, took advantage of CU Boulder’s tuition benefit to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from CU Boulder’s College of Arts & Sciences. The major dovetailed perfectly with her work as a communications tech and lead training coordinator at CUPD.

“I’ve always had an interest in people and society,” said Engle, who took classes from fall 2019 through spring 2022 while also working full time at CUPD. Although managing a career, school and family life was challenging, she said the sense of accomplishment made the effort worthwhile.

“Looking back, I sometimes think, ‘How did I do it? Wow!’” Learning during COVID turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as some of her in-person courses moved online or to a hybrid format, making it easier to learn from anywhere.

Engle started her educational journey at CU Boulder with transfer credits from a previous institution. “I decided on the major a long time ago,” she said. “And I’m sure my interest in people helped me gravitate toward this career.”
