Around 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018, CU Boulder Police officers responded to Sewall Hall on the report of a burglary. When officers arrived, they found a man, matching the description of the suspectMug shot of Ryan Alfred Johnson sitting outside of the building. This person, Ryan Alfred Johnson (DOB 12/14/1978), is alleged to have broken into the building, set a small fire, and caused damage to a fire sprinkler head.

While speaking with him, Johnson started to walk away from officers. He did not comply with officer's directions to remain at the scene and resisted officers when they attempted to detain him. At one point, one of the officers used their conducted electrical device (commonly known as a TASER) to prevent injury to themselves and control the suspect.

A short time later, Johnson then began to have an unknown medical issue. He was transported to Boulder Community Hospital by American Medical Response (AMR). Drugs and alcohol are thought to have been involved. Johnson was arrested after being released from the hospital and booked into the Boulder County Jail.

Damage to Sewall Hall is estimated to be around $20,000. The damage did not involve any of the student living areas.
