Before outer membrane proteins can be inserted, they must first be secreted into the periplasm through the Sec translocon. Once in the periplasm they are bound by chaperones and passed on to BAM. My project aims to identify which parts of these nascent OMPs mediate their interaction with BAM through the use of in vivo binding assays.
