Elizabeth Achulo

Elizabeth currently works for the University of Colorado at Boulder at the Campus Controller’s Office. She volunteers for a team called Foundations for Leaders Organizing for Water and Sustability (FLOWS) at the CU Environmental Center which pushed her to think more deeply about the issues that negatively impact our climate and it propelled her to join the Climate Justice Leaders Program. Through the program she learned that in order to see meaningful change, leadership must come from front line communities, including low-income communities like her own. Elizabeth firmly believes that in order for everyone to be included in conversations regarding climate justice, both community members and leaders have to work together to better understand the needs of their community and insure that all voices are heard, especially when low income folks are left out of the equation. She would like to see a comprehensive agenda in Boulder where all types of people work together, with a shared vision, for a healthy environment and a better future for everyone. Elizabeth is a mother of two beautiful children and is originally from South Sudan. Her first time flying was when she moved to Colorado and she still remembers how she shook a lot of people’s hands in DIA's waiting area because she thought everyone was there to receive her. To this day she still cringes and laughs at herself when she remembers that day!
