Alex Miller

Research topic: Public Lands Recreation 

Alex Miller is an incoming PhD student at Montana State University researching public lands recreation and stewardship. He has spent the past two years working for a conservation nonprofit in southwest Colorado centered around responsible recreation and use of area public lands. His most recent scholarship, which won the 2023 Montana the Magazine of Western History Emerging Scholar Contest, discusses the evolution and connectivity of avalanche research in the Mountain West. Along with this, he is currently conducting a series of oral history interviews with Bureau of Land Management staff working with the Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area in Montrose county, Colorado.
