Disseration title: Does social media shape who we are? A netnographic mixed-methods study of the Spanish language of Latinx individuals in California.
Álvaro González Alba is a PhD candidate at the Department of Hispanic Studies at the University of California, Riverside. He is working on his PhD thesis that examines the influence of Spanish on social media interactions. His research interests focus on Spanish sociolinguistics, Digital Humanities, Social Media research and bilingualism. He also focuses on pedagogies for the teaching of Spanish with an emphasis on using the sociolinguistic history of the Spanish language in California in the classrooms. He is currently conducting research on the ethics of social media research, the influence of the media on Spanish speakers and communities, and the perceptions towards Californio Spanish.
