Learn about the representation of Italian culture through cinema from the 1940s to today. During the first part of the semester, we will discuss groundbreaking cinematic styles like Neorealism, the genre of ‘commedia all’italiana’, and world-renowned auteurs, such as Fellini and Visconti. The second half of the course will be devoted to contemporary issues in Italian society: immigration and social/urban change, Mafia, history and memory, gender and sexuality.
