Her doctoral thesis, Positively Engaging, examines the writings of 3 women authors circa 1850 : feuilletonniste Clotilde de Vaux ; scientist/philosopher Clémence Royer and poet Louise Ackermann. Her research shows how the works of these women were important in shaping the positivist thought prevalent in the nineteenth century.
