Communication Praxis

Democratic practices are ways that we communicate to address cultural crises, conflicts and challenges of collective consequence. BoulderTalks cultivates praxis by encouraging, facilitating, networking and studying publics and public participation practices. Director Pezzullo has published on the use of tours, citizen advisory boards, international summits, boycotts, buycotts and more as embodied communicative choices that have consequences for our environmental and social justice values and policies. Co-director Sprain has designed a range of public practices—public deliberation, dialogue, planning exercises and games. Associate director Motter brought a group of undergraduate students to the Republican primary debate held at CU, which recognized both the debate and tweeting about it as democratic practices.
