Experience a global conversation with the Portal

Gold shipping container, portal, in trees

From April 5 to May 9, the College of Media, Communication and Information and BoulderTalks will host an installation of the Shared Studios portal project, which people all over the world use to host live chats inside shipping containers with life-sized screens for face to face, full-body conversations. The conversations are not related to a specific topic, but rather come out of strangers, with different backgrounds, fostering listening and sharing across borders as if they're in the same room.

Schedule a chat! Time slots for one-on-one international conversations will be available via “open hours” and can be reserved at no cost. Locations include: Herat, Afghanistan; Amman, Jordan; Kigali, Rwanda; Erbil, Iraq; Mexico City, Mexico; and others.

The Portal is located on the brick plaza between the Gold Biosciences building and Folsom Stadium on Colorado Avenue.

Several undergraduate and graduate classes at CU Boulder will be participating in directed conversations related to course topics. While the Portal is primarily for our students, we are excited to have as many Boulder residents participate as possible. In addition, we are working with area high schools to make this experience accessible to their students.

The Portal is co-curated by communication graduate student Eric Netterlund and Associate Director Jeff Motter. Please direct questions here
