Dusty Martinez (él/they) is a Rhetoric & Culture PhD candidate in the Department of Communication. Their research focuses on rhetorical criticism of power through jotería decoloniality, in which they question and critique the ways in which discourse constitutes forms of oppression for Latine communities. They use research as a way to theorize from the Latine perspective, as they embrace experiential theorizing and critical Latine perspectives to enact change. Their research commitment is also an embodied practice as they merge theory and practice within their pedagogy of jotería acompañamiento, which they bring to the Critical Dialogic Pedagogy Micro-Credential Program as the Program Coordinator and Facilitator. As part of the CDP team, they help plan curriculum, lead workshops, gather data, plan events, recruit, coordinate workshops, and support many aspects of the CU Dialogues Program.
