The Student Voice and Leadership Council is part of a new campus-wide initiative, charged by the Office of the Chancellor and led by the Crown Institute, in partnership with the Jed Foundation (JED).The initiative is aimed at strengthening CU Boulder’s ongoing commitment to student mental health, wellness, and flourishing.

The group will provide strategic input to the initiative’s Advisory Committee and will emphasize the ongoing relevance, feasibility, and impact of work to strengthen collaborative, comprehensive and effective programs and policies that mitigate risk and promote student flourishing.

Students will meet for approximately 2 hours a week throughout the academic year to develop, conduct and analyze focus groups aimed at understanding student mental health, wellness, and flourishing. Students will share findings with the Campus Advisory Team to ensure integration of students’ perspectives.

The overall initiative is guided by the Crown Institute participatory cycle (Figure 1). Utilizing this participatory cycle ensures work that is intended to benefit a community is conducted with—not on or for—that community. This process also will center student voice to maximize the likelihood of creating immediate and enduring benefit for students and helping all engaged to orient to the needs and priorities of students as the north star.
