Julia Zigarelli

Dr. Julia C. Zigarelli is the Associate Director and a member of the Executive Committee of the Crown Institute, and a licensed child psychologist. It was her passion for research and practice that respects and values the wisdom of children, families, and educators that drew her back to her hometown here in Colorado and the leadership of the Crown Institute. She received her PhD from the University of Washington with training in both educational and clinical psychology. She completed an APA clinical child psychology internship at the School of Medicine, University of New Mexico, and a postdoctoral clinical child fellowship at Aurora Mental Health Center in Colorado. Dr. Zigarelli was recognized by the Southern Poverty Law Center for her commitment to evidence-based practices that center justice and equity.​  She has provided therapeutic support to children, adolescents and families in a range of settings including public schools, integrated primary care, outpatient, residential, and private clinical settings. Dr. Zigarelli is graduate faculty for the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience supervising and supporting clinical psychology graduate students to deliver evidence based services to adolescents. She is honored to bring her expertise to the InsideU project which aims to increase access to social and emotional learning tools in direct collaboration with the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Denver and Pixar Animation Studios.
