Taking inspiration from Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out, the overall goal of this new Institute project is to develop and study social and emotional learning curriculum and digital support tools that are highly engaging and relevant to a diverse population of children, families and educators.
Working directly with Pixar Animation Studios, this collaborative project aims to build a foundation using Inside Out’s potential as a powerful, entertaining, and educational tool for improving peoples’ mental and emotional wellness. Using youth co-design models, we will develop learning activities based on the film’s unique characters and narratives that are deeply rooted in elements of evidence-based psychotherapies. Using a combination of clips from the iconic movie, interactive learning opportunities, and multiple options for personalizing the Inside Out emotions, this project will facilitate the creative application of social and emotional learning skills to real-world dilemmas faced by elementary school-aged children.
