In Recognition of Our Team: Celebrating Sona and Danny
On November 7, 2019, two members of the Crown Institute family, Dr. Sona Dimidjian and Daniel Conroy, were recognized with awards at the 90th annual University of Colorado alumni awards ceremony. Dr. Sona Dimidjian, Director of the Renée Crown Wellness Institute, was honored with the prestigious Robert L Stearns Award—initiated in 1953—that recognized members of faculty and staff for extraordinary achievement in teaching, service to the university, off-campus service, work with students, and research. Described as a, “Real life superwoman channeling psychology as her superpower,” Dr. Dimidjian was esteemed for her many incredible contributions in the field of psychology and for her service in communities across Colorado and the world. Her innovative work to redefine health and wellness has affected the lives of thousands, and laid the groundwork for the establishment of the Institute. In addition to a number of partners, friends, and community members, the event was attended by Colorado philanthropist, Dr. Patricia Crown, who established the Renée Crown Wellness Institute.
Daniel Conroy, Advisory Board Member of the Crown Institute, was honored at the celebration with the Alumni Recognition Award, an award established in 1935 that honors outstanding CU Boulder alumni who have given back profoundly to the university. A humanities graduate in 1991, Danny has stayed a strong part of the CU community as the co-founder and director for the CU Collegiate Recovery Center (CUCRC), a non-clinical space in the University Memorial Center where students and full-time staff support students struggling with substance abuse disorders. An astounding 95% of the participants graduate or remain enrolled in classes at CU after participating in the program. Danny was recognized for, “Embodying that rare combination of creative entrepreneurship and compassionate service that makes positive change possible.”
Congratulations to Sona and Danny for their remarkable achievements and passionate service to our community.
