Rania Al Namara, Ph.D. is a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Center for Media, Religion and Culture at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her research focuses on the collaboration between journalists and humanitarian organizations in crisis reporting through feminist praxis approaches to storytelling. Her work explores the intersection of journalism, humanitarian communication, and technology, examining how digital tools reshape storytelling practices, challenge normative boundaries, and transform audience and community engagement during times of crisis. Her research and teaching are inspired by her work internationally in media production and communications for humanitarian NGOs, based in Washington D.C., and the Middle East, over the past 15 years. Building on findings from her dissertation, Al Namara continues to explore how participatory and community-based journalism models can connect humanitarian communication with local media ecosystems, fostering dialogic and inclusive approaches to journalism and social change. Her scholarly work has been published in Social Media and Society Journal and she has contributed three book chapters to Interactive Documentary: Practice-based Research.
