College of Music welcomes non-music majors

The CU Boulder College of Music offers many opportunities for non-music majors to engage, perform and deepen their understanding of music. 

Any course with the prefix MUEL is open to all students. Course titles include Introduction to Songwriting, Wild West Soundscapes, Music of the Rock Era, Making Electronic Music, Words and Music, Music and Global Health and more.

Additional courses without that prefix are cross-listed in other departments. One of the largest ensembles open to non-majors is the college’s Golden Buffalo Marching Band (GBMB). More than 90% of the currently record-setting 270 members are non-music majors. The GBMB represents nearly every school, college, student organization and major at CU Boulder.
