CU Boulder Undergrads: Create chalk art at UROP’s Sidewalk Symposium
Developed and hosted in Boulder since 2018, the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program's Sidewalk Symposium invites undergraduates to share their research and creative presentations using chalk art with the support of student artists experienced in conceptualizing, sketching and more.
In order to participate, students must fill out the registration form by Monday, Oct. 5.
UROP staff will be on hand throughout the event, and participants may choose to create and share their chalk art any time.
The event will be held on Monday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Visual Arts Complex Plaza.
All CU Boulder undergraduates engaged in campus research and creative projects at any stage of their project timeline can participate. Participants must be working or have completed work under the supervision of a CU Boulder faculty or staff mentor. UROP funding is not required to participate.
Students may bring their own chalk, but UROP will provide supplies. Though there is no guarantee that there will be enough of the colors students intend for their design, UROP has a wide range of soft pastels and a few blending tools. UROP will also provide gloves, hand wipes and other cleaning supplies.
Get creative and consider including questions your project seeks to answer or raise, thought-provoking or troubling facts, statistics, surprising outcomes, conclusions, diagrams of methods, relevant processes, illustrations of biological or chemical structures, drawings of mechanical components and designs, titles of creative or performance pieces, graphs, charts or tables of significant data, mathematical formulas or relevant theorems.
