Teaching Technology Assistance Program (Dev)
The Teaching Technology Assistance Program (TTAP) is a new initiative that ASSETT is excited to launch in the Fall 2016 semester. This program pairs a faculty member who’s interested in implementing a new technology into the classroom with an undergraduate Student Fellow (SF or Fellow) who provides technical support.
Student Feedback
"[The SF] is awesome. I spent a hour with her when I was trying to complete blog 5. She sat down with me and went through everything step by step."
"... I've never had someone so available to get in touch with for assignments similar to this or any other and it was extremely helpful."
"I had a technology problem with one of my earlier blogs. I emailed [the SF] and sent her a picture of what I was seeing on my screen. She was able to solve the problem for me within minutes, so I'd say she was very helpful."
FAQ
The Student Fellows are undergraduate student staff members who are interested in improving Arts & Sciences’ undergraduate student experience through the use of technology.
ASSETT created this unique service that benefits faculty and students. TTAP allows faculty to comfortably and effectively introduce technologies that support their teaching and learning goals in the classroom. The Student Fellow ensures the technology is working as intended, allowing faculty to focus on students, the activity, and teaching to achieve maximum learning in the classroom.
Technical problems can pose serious barriers for students in completing assignments. Student Fellows are available to provide students with focused, just-in-time technical support. This support can be in the form of answering questions during a class session, emails outside of class, or hosting out-of-class sessions.
Through these experiences, our goal is to forge strong partnerships between faculty, students, and the Student Fellows. Ultimately, we hope SFs are empowered to determine how best to provide assistance to a diversity of faculty and student’s needs and gaining real-life experiences that they can take into the workplace.
A Student Fellow partners with a faculty member to provide assistance in a number of ways:
- Learn a new technology before and during implementation;
- Attend class session(s) when the new technology is being introduced to answer questions and circulate amongst students to provide support if problems arise;
- Develop help resources and tutorials for students to refer to outside of class; and
- Provide face-to-face, web conferencing, or email support for students outside of class
A Teaching Assistant (TA), Graduate Assistant (GA), and Learning Assistant (LA) typically help faculty with teaching tasks such as grading, proctoring exams, assisting students with questions about content, and/or leading small recitation sections. The Student Fellow’s main priority is to provide technical support to faculty and students.
