Monday, May 16, 2016: Active Learning

We know that when students experience a much richer and satisfying learning experience when they engage with course content, participate in discussions, and collaborate with peers.  As a result, students learn more when they’re engaging in the learning process of learning.  For this session, we’ll look at tools such as padlet, todaysmeet, and kahoot that can help engage students in and out of the classroom.

Tuesday, May 17, 2016: Discussion Tools

While great conversations are easy to facilitate in the classroom, it can be challenging to facilitate an online discussion.  In this session we’ll look at a number of tools that can help you facilitate discussions outside of the classroom, promote student to student communication between students, and have students interact with you and their peers through the course content.

When it comes to group work, students either love it or want nothing to do with peers.   Group work is a common activity for many courses and we know that when implemented with evidenced-based principles, these activities can provide a much richer and engaging experience for learners. In this session, we’ll look at tools that can alleviate time and space constraints, facilitate communication, collaboration, support peer evaluation, and even help with forming balanced groups.
