Faculty Headcount Report
Faculty Headcount Report
December 6, 2017
Each year since 2000 the Academic Affairs Office of Budget and Planning has tracked faculty headcount numbers across the CU Boulder campus. This count is compiled in the spring based on submitted salary augmentation rosters. Tenured and Tenure Track faculty are assigned to their tenure home while instructor-ranked faculty (including instructors, senior instructors, scholars and artists in residence and clinical faculty) are assigned to their primary budget home. While there are other methods used for counting and assigning faculty, this methodology has consistency in method over time.
The report for 2017 includes the summary tables for both Tenured and Tenure Track faculty and Instructor-ranked faculty below. These tables, based on actual faculty roster information compiled in spring 2017, show the following outcomes:
- Over the entire 18 year period of 2000-2017, the TTT faculty has grown by 22%.
- Half of this growth has occurred since spring 2015.
- Total growth of 226 means that the campus has attained 75% of the goal of increasing the TTT faculty by Chancellor Bud Peterson in the early 2000s.
- Instructor ranked faculty has more than doubled in headcount from 200 to 412 with most of this growth (200 to 336) taking place in the 2000-2010 period.
- The headcount of core faculty on campus (TTT + instructors) has increased by almost 1/3 since 2000.
