Transfer Credit and Degree Audit Centralization: Overview and Next Steps
CU Boulder is implementing a new structure for transfer credit evaluation and degree audit services to provide a more seamless experience for prospective and current students. This initiative follows a directive from Provosts Moore and Stevens to strengthen institutional alignment with SB24‑164 and improve consistency in how transfer credit is reviewed and applied toward degree requirements.
What Is Changing
Beginning July 1, 2026, transfer credit evaluation and degree audit functions will be centralized within Enrollment Management, with the goal of improving:
- Timeliness and accuracy of transfer credit decisions.
- Consistency across academic programs.
- The overall student experience from application through graduation.
To support this work
- A newly structured Transfer Credit Evaluation Services team will be established within the Office of the Registrar.
- The Transfer Credit Unit (TCU) will move from the Office of Admissions to the Office of the Registrar.
- Four positions from the College of Arts and Sciences Office of Academic and Curricular Affairs—including the degree audit coordinator—will also transition to the Office of the Registrar.
- Transfer recruitment and college‑level curricular oversight will remain within their current units in Admissions and A&S, respectively.
Implementation Timeline
- Spring 2026: Process mapping, team coordination, and transition planning.
- July 1, 2026: New structure becomes effective.
- Ongoing: Regular meetings and updates to ensure a smooth transition across units.
