Postdoctoral Affairs Events - Outstanding Postdoc and Mentor Awards are open!

The Outstanding Postdoc Awards recognize Postdoctoral Scholars currently coded as Postdoctoral Associates, Research Associates or Post-Doctoral Fellows who demonstrate exemplary research contributions, leadership and communication for their career stage, independent of years of postdoctoral experience.

Awardees will receive a $250 visa gift card.

Eligibility
Must be a Research Associate or Post-Doctoral Fellow at CU Boulder.

Application Information
Applicants must submit an online application (please see below) including a CV, one-page recommendation from a faculty mentor, and 300 word research or scholarly work summary. This summary should describe your research or scholarly work and achievements in a way that faculty unfamiliar with your area of expertise can understand with respect to your field.

Applications are due by Monday, September 4^th. Awards will be presented during Postdoc Appreciation Day, September 21^st, at 3:30 PM at the Koenig Alumni Center.

Selection Process and Criteria
Awards will be judged by a panel of CU Boulder faculty and will be based on your career stage-appropriate research contribution while at CU Boulder. Criteria to be considered include, but are not limited to, achievement of the postdoc in:

• Innovation or research contribution to the discipline(s);
• Research productivity including publications, presentations, performances, and awards, as appropriate for the discipline;
• Quality of communication about the research or scholarly work and demonstrated commitment to communicate with broad audiences;
• Leadership including mentoring, project management, and service within the local, national and international communities; and
• Overall impact.

The Outstanding Mentor Award recognizes a faculty member who provides exemplary leadership and training to postdoctoral scholars at CU Boulder.

Eligibility
Must be a faculty member nominated by a Research Associate or Post-Doctoral Fellow at CU Boulder.

Nomination Information
One or more postdoctoral trainees may nominate their faculty mentor using the online nomination form (please see below). Please complete only one nomination form per faculty member; multiple nominators may be listed using this form. 

Nominators must answer the following:

Please describe, using specific examples, how your mentor guides postdocs to accomplish intellectual and career development goals through leadership and advocacy (250 word limit).

How does your mentor create a supportive training environment that is suited to the individual needs of postdocs? Please provide specific examples, including how often your mentor gives regular, one-on-one feedback and counsel to individual postdocs (250 word limit).

Awards will be made to an eligible CU Boulder faculty member and judged by a panel of CU Boulder faculty and representatives of the Postdoctoral Association of Colorado. Criteria to be considered include, but are not limited to

• Leadership;
• Creating a supportive training environment suited to the needs of individual postdocs;
• Advocating for and guiding towards professional independence; and
• Regular and constructive feedback to postdocs to develop their independent careers.
