Following the presidential election, our campus has seen an increase in biased incidents inside and outside of the classroom.  These actions go against the mission of the campus, violate policies on civil conduct, and undermine the University’s inclusive excellence efforts.  In response to this disturbing change in climate, the Gender and Sexuality Center would like to affirm our support of the University’s and our department’s mission:

The Gender and Sexuality Center supports all marginalized people on campus and condemns hate speech, bullying, disparaging remarks or graphics about particular communities, harassment, and violence.  The Gender and Sexuality Center’s mission is to promote social justice and inclusive excellence to enhance the academic, social and personal development of all LGBTQIA students, staff, faculty and their allies.  The LGBTQIA and allied community represents every facet of diversity: across ethnicity, religion, nationality, and ability, to name a few.  Our collective experience has allowed us to ally ourselves with other marginalized communities whom we support and stand steadfastly with.  We deeply value diverse ¢communities on campus and celebrate the benefits that come with recognizing and being inclusive of that diversity.

We, along with other departments and programs on campus, are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels supported in their expression, identity, and beliefs without fear of retribution, disrespect, or hatred.  We will continue to uphold the rights of all people to access higher education in a safe learning and work environment.

Following the Program in Jewish Studies, we ask the administration of the University of Colorado to join us in speaking out against these kinds of incidents and to take more decisive action to oppose supremacist views or actions on campus.  We continue to open our space to students, staff, and faculty of all backgrounds and encourage you to seek support and community with us or other resource centers on campus.

The Gender and Sexuality Center

The Gender and Sexuality Center (GSC) is here to support students, faculty and staff who identify along the spectrum of gender and sexual orientation, including those who are questioning and exploring their identities, and those who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and their allies (LGBTQIA) at the University of Colorado Boulder.

We provide

  • information dissemination and referral,
  • educational, cultural, and social programming,
  • advocacy and support for students, staff and faculty.

We work closely with other campus departments, organizations and community groups to provide these programs and services. The Gender and Sexuality Center offers free sexual health resources such as internal condoms, external condoms, and lubricant. Come by our center to check out resources, get involved, make new friends, have a quiet place to study, and more!  You don't have to be "out" to come in.  We welcome everyone and do not ask or make assumptions about people's identitites.

We are located in Center for Community (C4C) N450, and our office is open 8:00-6:00 Monday through Friday during the fall and spring semester terms and 8:00-4:00 pm during the summer. For more information please contact us or call us at (303) 492-1377 or email (303-492-2966) or (303-492-7218).
