A dedication to outreach is central to the School of Education’s commitment to evidence-based policy and practice and to democracy, diversity and social justice. Faculty members integrate research, teaching, and outreach such that each informs the other while at the same time engaging with communities in mutually beneficial relationships. Undergraduate and graduate students likewise learn and work in schools and communities on K-12 education, public policy, and issues of importance to local communities.
In this way, research at the School of Education addresses practical issues in context and connects to teaching and service goals. These advances in research are incorporated into educational practice, a goal advocated by the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Education.
