Chiyoda Rubber Company and two affiliated factories owned by the Takato Company are located in Central Tokyo. Foam has established a secure status as a basic material for modern industry due to its characteristics and various functions. Since introducing polyurethane foam in 1954, Chiyoda Rubber has continuously striven to develop new products and technologies as a pioneer in the field.

Chiyoda Rubber Company also offers many products and technologies making full use of the characteristics of rubber. They create value through offering new products, making use of their material development, product development, and process expertise, in the automotive, information technology, housing, construction, and infrastructure fields.

Job Description and Responsibilities

  • Attend meetings
  • Write English text for company website
  • Site visits to subsidiary factories
  • Participate in deliveries in Tokyo metropolitan area
  • Opportunities for Japanese language practice
  • Up to 1 week visit to sister company Chalet Takato (mountain lodge) in Nagano Pref. possible.

Tentative Program Dates: Thursday, May 31 through Monday, July 16, 2018

Tentative Work Dates: Monday, June 4 through Friday, July 13, 2018

Work Hours: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week

(Possible weekend excursions to cultural sites.)

Location

Chiyoda Rubber Company is located in the Chiyoda Ward in Central Tokyo, one station away from Tokyo Station. Depending on dormitory location, students could have a commute upwards of 90 minutes each way. If the visit to Chalet Takato is finalized, housing will be available at the lodge.

Housing

Students will be housed in single rooms in a dormitory in Tokyo. The dormitory has a kitchen where students can prepare meals and Wi-Fi in common areas.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours by start of internship.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50.
  • Japanese language ability preferred, but not required.

Course Credit

Interns will receive up to 6 credits. (Credit available from Asian Studies or Leeds School of Business; subject to requirements of the student’s major and/or College. Other options may be available.)

Costs

  • Students can apply for Buffs Abroad Scholarships, and may be able to use financial aid.
  • Scholarship support available through the Center for Asian Studies, limited to students who have applied for Buffs Abroad Scholarships.

  • In addition to the application form, students will need to provide a cover letter, resume, transcript, and statement of purpose.
  • Students may be interviewed by the supervisor prior to selection.
  • Application deadline is February 18, 2018 at 11:59 p.m.
