James Harper, PE is a PhD student in Civil Engineering, specializing in Civil Systems and Engineering for Developing Communities. He is researching how human behaviors and preferences affect the sustainability of improved sanitation systems in developing communities. He finished his B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering summa cum laude at the University of California, San Diego. He has worked as a professional mechanical design engineer in a variety of fields and as a STEM educator at the high-school and undergraduate levels. James enjoys travelling internationally, backpacking, rock climbing, cooking, and photography.
