Emma Payne is a first year PhD student in Environmental Engineering, pursuing a certificate in Global Engineering through the Mortenson Center. Her research interest is in sustainable drinking water treatment, specifically UV advanced oxidation with applications for water reuse or decentralized treatment. Emma graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in environmental engineering, where she conducted research on pesticide fate in the environment and was a member of Engineers for a Sustainable World. Emma grew up in rural Maine, and it was this experience being surrounded by nature that initially inspired her to become an environmental engineer. Outside of school, Emma likes to mountain bike, hike and play the guitar.
